solo mum Charmaine Wilson

chats to SPB Editor, Tina Shaw

My old friend Charmaine Wilson was recently voted by the Australian public; as The One - the number one Psychic on the reality show of the same name.  We first met in 2005 when I interviewed Charmaine after she was crowned The Australian Psychic of the year.  I have to tell you it was an odd meeting of the minds, I was sceptical and she was amazing.  Charmaine is truly remarkable.  Not just for her mind boggling way of knowing everything about you… and your past… and your future, but for tackling Single Parenthood in her stride and doing it all with such unnerving honesty and courage, that you just can’t help but love her.

I was thrilled to catch up with Charmaine today after her latest win and get the inside track on Australia’s number one Psychic.

SPB: Congratulations on your most recent achievement!  So how would you describe what you do?

CW: I am a spirit medium – I receive messages from the passed over and give them to the living.

It is important to remember that a Psychic is not a psychologist and that visiting a Psychic is not going to solve your problems.

I am also very against Psychic abuse.  I had a client not so long ago who went to a Psychic in Toowoomba, Queensland.  And she was told that she was going to lose her grandson, that the operation he was about to have was going to go wrong and that he was going to die.  To me that is Psychic abuse as it put this poor woman into a complete state of panic and hysteria.

SPB: So, as a Psychic can your 2 sons ever put one over on you?  Can they lie to you, as most teenagers will at some stage or another?  Do you ever anticipate what they are going to say before they say it?

CW: No, they can’t lie to me.  I can make the decision to tune in to their energy or not.  I don’t do this a lot though as I want to respect their privacy.  The other day my youngest boy (now 14) and I were discussing the fact that my niece had a boyfriend and for some reason I decided to tune in.  So I had a quick look and I saw that he had been touching girl’s boobs.  Shocked, I blurted it out and he said Mum I AM 14, as if to say; what do you expect.  He is my spiritual boy and he will be a Psychic, he just doesn’t know it yet.  Even though he’s touching girl’s boobs, he has the same intense energy that I had at his age.

My oldest boy (19) is using my celebrity to meet girls.  It’s actually quite funny.  He also has his own gift; he uses Tarot cards and may develop something down the track.  I do believe that he does readings for his friends on occasions.  My youngest seems to be more in touch with the healing side, making people feel better.

SPB: As a solo mother, how do you combine your business, your gift and parenting?

CW: My kids live with their dad, but we still spend a lot of time together.  I travel a lot, but have great communication with my boys on the telephone and when I do get to spend time with them it is their time; we are wholly and fully together.  My oldest son comes up and spends 2 or 3 days a week with me now.  We have a terrific relationship.

The One with Andrew Daddo

I am now trying to just travel 2 weeks out of each month, so I can be home for the boys the other two.  With school and their other arrangements it can become a bit of a logistical nightmare.

SPB: What did you hope to achieve with your role on The One; apart from winning of course?

CW: When I realised what a great vehicle it was, the message I wanted to give to the community was that Psychics are a great resource.  Get them out of the tents and into the community to aid with searching for missing persons.  If police in Australia could be as open minded as some of the other countries in the world and put a Psychic on a case without the family knowing about it, I think that it could really make a difference.

I saw something on the Psychic Detective not long ago and she said some of them I get straight away and some are just not for me and that is so true.  If you only get one though, then you have really achieved something for the victim and the family.  It is definitely worth a shot.

Psychics can also be used as Medical Intuitives.  We could possibly find diseases in people before they become incurable.  If we had a chance to practice and hone those skills, we could do great things.

SPB: So what is next for Charmaine Wilson?

CW: The producers of the show [Channel 7’s The One] have spoken to me and they want to make another show and perhaps bring me on board as an advisor.  So that’s exciting.  My second book Spirit Children, is about to be released and I will also be continuing my tours around the country.

My most important work though is working with bereaved parents.  My daughter died 22 years ago now (I was 22 at the time).  Her death became a gift to many as it gave me the tools to deal with other people with their bereavements.  My daughter only lived for 4 ½ years but she gave more to me and to Australia then we could ever have known.  I see her as a big blue healing light (her name is Crystal you see).  Those who die young are teachers and I am so thankful that my experience can help heal others who have lost children.
