Holidaaay, Celebrate

by Tina Shaw

I am so hanging out for a holiday.  Not the kind where men in loin cloths feed you grapes on a Caribbean beach.  Not even the kind where you get to shop like Paris Hilton.  More like the kind of holiday where my son can play and have fun, socialise with other kids when he needs to and hang out with me and be silly and carefree.  The kind of holiday where we draw pictures, walk on the beach, swim and play and play and play.  Eat watermelon and fairy floss and everything in between.  Read stories about magical beings and fall asleep in hammocks in the late afternoon.  Bliss.  My perfect holiday.

Of course this holiday is far, far away from my every day reality.  The reality of deadlines, work, school and responsibility.

So we are looking for a destination and January is going to be our month.  In the immortal words of Madonna, we are all set to Holida-ay, Celebra-ate.  So where to go?

When asked, Z is quick to respond with his favourite holiday locations and past times, “We’ve never been to Movie World, not for a couple of whiles even.  Not yesterday, not yesterday, but yesterday.”  It was actually 4 months ago that we went and supered our way through the park.  From Batman to the Flash, there is a whole lot of super going on at Movie World.  Not exactly my idea of a relaxing holiday though.  Although having a happy child regardless of location, is key to happy holidays.

Remember the saying, happy wife, happy life?  The reality is, happy kids, calm mum.  Really, once you have children, keeping them happy becomes your top priority.  Now I know that those of you out there who are all about still having a life of your own post kids will be disagreeing with me, however, seriously when they are happy, aren’t you?  Laughing, giggling, playing and especially peaceful children are a joy to have.  So for me, holidays and outings are arranged around what is going to give my boy the most pleasure.

Holidaying with the Shaw's is fun fun fun...

So… Movie World it is.  As long as there is a tall glass of wine waiting back at the resort for me, I’m good.  I also wouldn’t say no to a poolside palm frond fanning from a local beach God.  Ah there’s nothing in the rule book that says mummy can’t have some fun too.
